Job Description

Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to work collaboratively with an established team of academics by contributing to teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. In addition to a broad knowledge and understanding of Teacher Education, the post holder is also expected to have specific knowledge and expertise in Primary Education.
Experience of managing school placements / partnership is also essential for this role. For appointment at Grade 8, a substantial contribution will include delivering, organising and reviewing these processes in line with School strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Deliver a range of teaching, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.
2. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
3. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
4. Make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
5. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face-to-face and blended learning formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
6. Engage in scholarship by undertaking relevant enquiries into student learning and disseminate evidence to enhance your own and others’, teaching practices. Attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching, scholarship and/or professional practice in your disciplinary area.
7. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.
8. Develop relationships with external stakeholders in support of knowledge exchange, public understanding and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.
9. Participate in local activities associated with student recruitment (e.g., open days), orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability and student mobility as appropriate.
10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan “World Changing Glasgow”
For appointment at Grade 8: In addition to the duties and responsibilities above:
13. Take a lead in the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner which supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment, making a substantial contribution to the teaching and learning activities within the School.
14. Develop new and effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, organisation, feedback and assessment.
15. Develop a growing portfolio of scholarship outputs and activities and support early career staff in developing their own portfolio.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 11 (Postgraduate Diploma/Masters Degree) in relevant subject area or equivalent professional and teaching experience.
A2: Qualified Teacher Status and demonstrable relevant teaching experience eligible for GTCS registration.
For Appointment at Grade 8:
A3: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience.
A4: Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in the specialist subject/discipline to develop teaching programmes/methodologies/learning support.
Skills
Essential:
C1: Ability to communicate material of a specialist nature both orally and in writing for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way.
C2: Ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students to inspire learning.
C3: Ability to apply policy, practice and procedures including broader University/sector/external (e.g., commercial) awareness. manage school placements in teacher education.
C4: Ability to work on own initiative to contribute to the learning and teaching within the subject area and wider School environment pastoral and academic support to UG and PG students.
C5: Effective organisation skills to manage time and prioritise as appropriate teaching, scholarship and administrative responsibilities.
For Appointment at Grade 8:
C6: Ability to build effective teams, networks or communities of practice and to foster constructive cross-team collaboration.
C7: Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.
Experience
Essential:
E1: Experience of applying innovative approaches in teaching and learning to enhance student experience and attainment.
E2: Experience required to teach content related to a variety of teacher education courses at UG and PG level.
For Appointment at Grade 8:
E3: Track record of scholarship and development and delivery of teaching, and proven ability to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques and methods.
E4: Experience and achievement in the relevant field reflected in an expanding personal academic portfolio.
E5: Track record of continuous engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7/8, £37,474 - £42,155 / £46,047 - £53,353 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
