Gap Student who is looking to gain industry experience within the education sector as a Classroom Helper / School Boarding Assistant who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for boarders is required for a well-established Independent School in Dorton, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
This role would ideally be suited to candidates who although may be deferring higher education, are considering a future career in education and/or sport, art, drama, history, geography, mathematics, science etc.
SALARY: Competitive + Benefits
BENEFITS: 38 Days Paid Annual Leave (including 8 Bank Holidays), applied pro rata for part-time staff, Pension Scheme, Free School Meals and Refreshments on School and INSET Days. The School only offers boarding on 4 nights of the week, Monday to Thursday inclusive.

JOB TYPE: One Year Fixed Term Contract (Term Time Only)
CONTRACT DATES: 1 st September 2023 to 31 st August 2024
WORKING HOURS: 40 Hours per Week – Including evening hours to support school events and to assist in the Boarding House. There will be free time during the day in accordance with the timetable.
JOB OVERVIEW
The School is looking to appoint a Gap Student / School Boarding Assistant who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for boarders, and provide support for teaching staff, both in and out of the classroom.
Working with the Boarding Team, the Gap Student / School Boarding Assistant will work as part of a dynamic boarding and wider school team that aims to deliver a broad and creative curriculum to the pupils.
As the Gap Student / School Boarding Assistant you will live in the boarding house and assist the Head of Boarding and teaching staff supervise children and associated activities in and around the School.

THE SCHOOL
The School is an established co-educational Preparatory School for around 300 children aged 3 - 13+ set in a beautiful Jacobean mansion with its own thirty-acre estate in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside just twenty minutes from Oxford, Thame and Aylesbury.
The School has expanded significantly over the last fifteen years and invested heavily in its infrastructure and support systems. We aim to give every child the firmest possible grounding in the core academic subjects, within a small caring family community where children both know each other and all of the staff.
DUTIES
As the Gap Student / School Boarding Assistant your duties will include:
Assist, most evenings with the supervision of boarders’ clubs, activities and the bedtime routine
Assist with the wake-up and the breakfast routine
Work closely with the Head of Boarding and other boarding staff to create a warm, welcoming and family atmosphere within the House
Help staff deliver the School’s Wrap-Around Care provision
Assist teaching staff with classroom activities and project work
Assist with administrative tasks
Participate in the duty rota for supervising pupils at break, lunch and other times, as required
Accompany pupils and staff on educational visits e.g. museums and camping expeditions
Assist and lead in the daily Games Coaching sessions
Provide Lifeguarding cover at the swimming pool during PE, Games and Activities during the summer months (training will be arranged for you)
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
Educated to A Level standard or equivalent
GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Ability to work as part of a team
Able to independently manage workload and to apply good time management and organisation to work
Good ICT skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite of products
A flexible approach and a willingness to participate in all activities
Reliable and honest
Ability to work independently
Have good written and oral interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to develop good relations with staff and pupils and the wider school community
Desirable
Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent)
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent)
Recent experience of working with children age 3-11
Recent experience of teaching or coaching
