We are seeking a dynamic and qualified Archive Conservator with experience of working in a busy conservation laboratory to join our team based at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre working 18.5 hours per week.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Conservation and Museums Advisory Service (CMAS). CMAS gives advice and provides commercial conservation services to museums and heritage organisations in Wiltshire and further afield. The centre offers a passport to the past for anyone interested in finding out more about the fascinating history of Wiltshire and Swindon.
About the role
This role is responsible for the care of the archives held at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre and carrying out commercial conservation work for external clients.
You will undertake conservation treatments on a variety of archival material, including documents, books, works on paper, parchment and photographs and give preventative conservation and care advice. You’ll also deliver other income generation activity such as training and outreach.
The role works with colleagues in the centre and a range of clients suchas archives, museums, heritage organisations and individuals.
About you
We will look to you to be a qualified Conservator with an undergraduate or post-graduate conservation degree along with experience of working on a range of archival materials.
Experience of working in a commercial conservation environment is desirable. You will be up date with current treatments and best practice, with a desire to continue developing your skills within this role.
Well organised with excellent communication skills, you will have the drive, enthusiasm and initiative to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary team. You will be able to plan work streams, taking a proactive approach in anticipating workload and prioritising accordingly; and have good customer care skills. Experience of delivering training is desirable.
